REVERSAL OF FORTUNE
A FLOATING CHINESE CITY FOR TRADING ON THAMES RIVER
Inspired by the a recent issue of The Economist journal, the design project starts with the notion of ‘Reversal of Fortune’ between developing coutries, China to be more specific, and developed countries, and how this may lead to China buying up the world in the near future.
This scheme is based on the scenario that the Chinese economy has become so overwhelming that all the European countries, including UK, are desperate to sell their products to China, whilst China is eagerly expanding its oversea investment all over the world, from corporate merger and acquisition to personal real estate investment. In order to revive its deteriorating economy, the UK government has decided to lease the Thames River to China for building a Floating Chinese City consisting of a European Trade Centre to enhance the trading between EU and China, a new Bank of China collaborating with the well established London financial service sector for Chinese to invest in the Europe and a new Chinatown to establish a new image for the Chinese community.
